Tamblingan Lake is one of the natural attractions are located in the north slope of Mount Lesung, Munduk Village area, District of Banjar, Buleleng district, Bali Province, Indonesia. As one of the natural attractions, Tamblingan Lake not developed in the direction of modern tourism to preserve nature and the environment. This lake is one of the three twin lakes formed within a  Large caldera, of which there are in a row east of Buyan and Bratan lake, because the lake is located on a plateau and is flanked by the forest environment around the lakes has cool temperate, it was very suitable for those of you who want to find tranquility and enjoy the natural atmosphere away from the noise. 

Which is the main attraction of this place is not just a natural charm, but also because of there are many temples that stores the history and development of the civilization and culture of Bali, especially in relation to the establishment and development of the Tamblingan village. It is said that in 10M to 14M century, Tamblingan Lake is a residential center is located in Mount Lesung south of the lake. For some reason the population then moved into four different regions that distance is still adjacent to the lake area. The four villages were then called  Catur Desa, which means four villages namely: Munduk Village, Gobleg, Gesing, and Umejero village. The four villages have a spiritual bond and have the responsibility and obligation to maintain the sanctity of the lake and the temple around him.

The name of the lake “Tamblingan” comes from two words in Bali language, “Tamba” means the drug, and “Elingang” means the ability to remember or spiritual. Told in Papyrus Kutara Kanda Purana Bangsul god, that the people in the region reportedly been affected by outbreaks of epidemics. As a way out someone who purified and then down to the small lake at the bottom of the village to fetch water for the drug. Thanks to prayers and spiritual capabilities of water he was then put on medication and is able to cure the villagers. The words “Tamba” and “Elingang”  gradually becoming Tamblingan.

How To get There

Tamblingan Lake located in the north slope of Mount Lesung, Munduk Village area, District of Banjar, Buleleng district, Bali Province, Indonesia. The location of the lake adjacent with Buyan lake. You can drive from Ngurah Rai international airport via Jl. Raya Denpasar Gilimanuk, which has 78,9 km in distance and take about 1 h 29 min in journey.
