Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (GWK) is a tourist park that located at an altitude of 146 meters above the ground level or 263 feet above sea level. This park located in the southern part of Bali island, exactly in Tanjung Nusa Dua, Badung regency, about 40 kilometers south of Denpasar the provincial capital of Bali. It was developed as a park monument of culture and became an icon for tourism in Bali and Indonesia.In the cultural area of the park will be set up a giant statue of Lord Vishnu who is riding Garuda. In the body of the statue pedestal to chest level or as high as 18 meters, visitors can ride by using a special elevator ( escalator ). From the height of the statue, tourists and visitors can enjoy the beauty of the natural scenery of Bali island, from that height, visitors can also witness the beauty of Mount Agung in the distance east part of Bali island. In the garden area there is also a Garuda Plaza which has a height of 12 meters, which is currently the focal point of a large hall carved limestone pillars which covers more than 4000 square meters of open space that is the Lotus Pond. Limestone pillars colossal and monumental Garuda statue make Lotus Pond become very exotic space. With a room capacity that can accommodate up to 7000 people, Lotus Pond has gained a good reputation as a perfect place to hold big and international events.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is a window of art and culture for that the island which has a natural background and very impressive panorama. GWK become one of the main objectives for the various art performances, exhibitions and conferences or a relaxing visit even spiritual visit. If it successfully completed the construction of the Statue pedestal will be the largest in the world and probably beat the Statue of Liberty. GWK is a masterpiece of Balinese artist , I Nyoman Nuarta , who was in the area of South Bali precisely in Unggasan hill .
How to get there
From Ngurah Rai Airport you can rent a car or using a private vehicle , then drive from Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai , and Jl. Kampus Udayana Raya South Kuta and Turn left onto Jl . By Pass Ngurah Rai. The trip will take about 19 minutes with a distance of 11.7 km. GWK cultural tourism park is on the left side.
