Goa Lawah is one area of the temple is known as one of the important temples in Bali. Pura Goa Lawah including in rural areas Pesinggahan, Dawan sub district, Klungkung Regency . The distance is about 10 km to the east of the Klungkung town or less than 50 km from the city of Denpasar. According to the historians this temple was built in the 11th century by MPU Kuturan idea, The name of the temple was derived from the tourist attractions of the word “Goa” and “Lawah” which means the bat, so Pura Goa Lawah means a temple in which there are a thousands of bats on the cave. This temple used by the Balinese as a places for worship God as the God of the Sea.

This temple located opposite the beach and into the hills. The scenery in this temple was very typical, because there is a Goa (cave) which is right under the shady trees. At the mouth of the cave was built a couple of places for worship, in front of the cave in the temple area also appears to many places of worship, big ceremonies in this temple held once every six months. In the Balinese calendar days Anggarkasih called Medangsia.

Generally, festival held in Goa Lawah divided into 2 types which are Piodalan ceremony ( temple anniversary ) and Ngusaba ceremony. In this event , many Hindus from all over the island come and pray. Goa Lawah is an interesting place to visit in Bali and opened for visitors who want to come closer to the temple.

How to get there

If you want to visit Pura Goa Lawa, from Ngurah Rai airport you can drive through the Bypass road, Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra. As you enter the Pesinggahan village towards to Goa Lawah, along the way there are many stalls that offer a menu of fish. Such as grilled fish, spiced fish, satay, fish soup, vegetable like pelecing kangkung, raw chili, red chili seasoning Bali, complete with rice and coconut ice. Stall snacks are also across many temples, The parking lot is available quite extensive which is outside the temple and on the waterfront. This tourist destination visited by domestic and foreign tourists. Especially during the holiday season and the feast.
